Regenerative Food Forest in the Amazon project

Dear,

We are grateful to share this update from our sister organization, the Chaikuni Institute. Their work with Indigenous students and regenerative food forests embodies the same values we hold dear at the Temple: reciprocity, healing, and care for the Amazon. Thanks to your continued generosity, these seeds of regeneration are growing in communities across the rainforest.

Thanks to your generosity during GlobalGiving’s July Bonus Day, Indigenous students feel more supported in their journeys. Our gratitude is profound, and so is theirs. These young men and women are not just working hard to finish their studies. They are preparing themselves to take on leadership roles defending their culture, their lands and the forest we all depend on. Your support makes this possible.

New communities, new promoters

We are also delighted to share exciting news from our Ayni, Regenerative Food Forest in the Amazon project. With your steady support, and in partnership with the Kukama women of the Huaynakana organization, we’ve been able to expand our work to two new communities along the Marañón River: Atenas and Mundial.

Visiting families’ chacras

Sustainable native beekeeping

For some time, families in these villages had been asking to join the project. Being able to finally tell them yes brought joy to everyone involved. Each community has now chosen its own local promoter: Merilda in Atenas and Rosa in Mundial. Both have already received a week-long training at our Permaculture Center, and are now working with six families each. In our first visit to the families and their chacras, we listened to their interests and identified the potential of our work together. In Mundial, we also carried out an initial training on native stingless bees, so families could begin learning about sustainable beekeeping.

During this first year, we’ll begin with a small group in every village. Over time, more families will gradually join, allowing the project to grow organically.

This is how regeneration spreads. From every donation, big and small, reaching families and students who care for our beloved Amazon rainforest and make it flourish.

With gratitude from the Amazon,

The Chaikuni Team

Feeling the call of the rainforest?

In 2024, we welcomed over 50 people from nearly 20 countries, who joined our Amazon immersion, trainee and volunteer programs (and some, like Pi, even decided to stay with us for 5 months and more!).
